Job Description

We are seeking a Project Manager / Scrum master to work closely with one of our engineering teams, supporting the team's management and successful delivery of both client and internal R&D projects. Alongside facilitating Agile delivery processes, a key responsibility of this role is maintaining visibility of project scope, effort expenditure, and budget position, ensuring delivery risks are identified early and communicated effectively to clients and stakeholders. The desired candidate will have an interest in software development combined with strong organisational and communication skills and a desire to learn new skills and methodologies.

While this role is ideally based on-site in Bristol, we are open to hybrid working arrangements for candidates based in the UK, Poland, or France who demonstrate exceptional skills and significant industry experience.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Manage end-to-end delivery of IT projects, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Monitor project scope, effort expenditure, budget position, and delivery milestones, identifying risks and potential overruns at an early stage.
  • Support internal R&D and Product goals and backlog refinement.
  • Ensure clear communication of project plans, goals, expectations, and progress.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and dependencies.
  • Conduct post-project evaluations to identify areas for improvement.

Client Support

  • Assist with triage activities for client requests for StackHPC support.
  • Ensure that client support requests are tracked and followed up within the team's work cycles.
  • Manage the ongoing relationship with Support Customers and lead regular Support Reviews

Team Leadership

  • Facilitate team planning, stand-ups, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
  • Guide the team on Agile/Scrum/Kanban principles to enhance productivity and quality.
  • Remove impediments and foster a collaborative environment.

Operations Tooling and Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain automation tools used in the workflows of StackHPC's operations and processes.
  • Develop and maintain business reports to provide insights to work, productivity, and budget utilisation.

Qualifications

Core Requirements

  • Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with methodologies like Agile/Scrum, Kanban, Lean or similar delivery methodologies.
  • Experience managing project scope, budgets, timelines, and delivery risks.
  • Basic understanding of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud technologies.
  • Experience supporting product development or technical delivery.
  • Experience managing geographically distributed teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to learn.

Additional Assets

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in any discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with modern agile project management tools.
  • Interest in data, reporting, and data visualisation.
  • Any foundational Agile or Scrum certifications are a plus but not required.
  • High-level awareness of or curiosity about high-performance computing, large-scale data, or infrastructure-as-a-service concepts.

Our Location

We have team members based across the globe but our HQ is in central Bristol - voted one of the best places to live in the UK and one of the UK's top destinations. This location is a short walk from Bristol Temple Meads station.

Salary and benefits

  • Competitive salary and bonus.
  • Generous stock option scheme.
  • Flexible working hours and discretionary remote working.
  • 25 days paid holiday, plus bank holidays.
  • Pension contribution.
  • Support for travel to conferences and delivering presentations.
